3 Types of Joiners to Taekwondo Training

Kids or teens who join Taekwondo training can be classified as follows:

  1. Zero background - In this group both parent & teen or kid have no prior knowledge or experience about Taekwondo

  2. Parent has prior experience - In this group, the parents (one or both), in their younger years, previously had some years of Taekwondo training

  3. Teen or kid has some short experience - In this group, the teen or kid had a short experience in Taekwondo training, usually through short summer clinics or school-based PE activity

Zero background parent or kid

In this group, usually the parents are seeking some physical activity or training for their kids, for the latter's proper physical and character development. In some cases, the trigger could be a sad bullying experience in school. Often, the trigger is the observed unhealthy prolonged exposure time to digital gadgets and games. So parents either actively search online or ask friends and relatives for alternative and healthier activities such as sports, etc. In doing so, they easily take notice of advertisements or social media posts about such activities.

Choosing what kind of activity that they would consider for their kid is often not easy, more so convincing their kid to even try other activities. But often the parents would exercise their authority as parent and almost tell their kid that they must try some other activities for their own good.

So, parents and kids are really just exploring various other activities. They are not prepared to make some kind of long-term commitment, instead they are just open to try some different activities. Hence, they are keen to take trial training sessions, but are hesitant to pay for multiple sessions for 2 or more months. They are likely open to pay-per-training session kind of arrangement. It's important to them that their kids develop good or strong interest in the activity prior to making some sort of long-term purchase commitment. They're also not prepared to spend significant amount on uniform or sports gadgets needed in the activity. There's not definite length of time in their wait-and-see period. Usually, these parents would constantly ask their kids whether they like the activity or whether they want to continue doing the activity.

Hence, it's quite normal for such parents to prefer trial sessions and pay-per-training kind of programs. It's just the wise thing to do given the lack of prior knowledge or experience.

Parents with some prior experience

Parents who, in their younger years, did Taekwondo training often wish for their own kids to also learn Taekwondo. In some cases, such parents wish for their kids to achieve or even exceed what they may have achieved previously. So, parents, who in their younger years did Taekwondo but failed to advance to black belt, sometimes wish and encourage their own kids to take Taekwondo training and become a black belt. In this case, the parents fully know the advantages and benefits that can be derived from Taekwondo training. It's only their kids they need to convince that it can be good or even great for their own growth and development. So, parents in this case are more prepared to commit for several months or long-term Taekwondo training for their kid. They're prepared to spend what's necessary and would encourage their kid to take the training sessions seriously and frequently. They have the tendency to push their kid to achieve fast pace of progress in terms of belt promotion.

Teen or kid with short prior Taekwondo experience

Teens or kids who previously took short Taekwondo training, whether in some summer clinic or in school as part of their PE subject, and then decide to seek regular Taekwondo training are often highly committed to the sport already. They don't need convincing anymore. Perhaps, it's their parents who need convincing. While during their short Taekwondo training there may have been less or manageable spend, taking regular Taekwondo training will usually entail some significant spending. Taekwondo gyms or schools with head coaches who have strong credentials, i.e., have many major local and international achievements as a Philippine National Team player, tend to charge higher fees.

Achievo fully recognizes these differences among those who are considering to join Taekwondo training

Therefore, it made clear choices of offering trial sessions, pay-per-session, monthly 4 and 8-session packages. This is to ensure that the needs of the differently situated parents and students are somehow addressed. And while it is headed by Coach Clarence Sarza who, at still a young age of 25, has already made major international achievements as a member of the Philippine National Team, winning Bronze in 2025 Korea Open Championship and Silver in 2025 SEA Games, Achievo has chosen the path of making Taekwondo training more accessible through more affordable training rates.

So, Achievo welcomes those with zero background in Taekwondo, those parents who wish for their kids to continue and even exceed their own prior Taekwondo journey, and teens and kids who got to try Taekwondo for just a short time and now want to commit to Taekwondo as a long-term journey.
